Through the Hiroshima University Research Networking Support Grant Program, I participated and presented at the 7th edition of the WASTES conference held in September 2025 in Madeira, Portugal. I showcased the results of research on trends in the trade of plastic waste in Africa and their implications for plastic waste management on the continent. I had the opportunity to engage in mutual exchange with researchers from various fields and interests within the solid waste management umbrella, which enriched my understanding of the global state of the art in waste management research. Thanks to the grant, I anticipate strengthening the connections made and building professional networks for future interdisciplinary research collaborations on diverse topics related to waste management and the circular economy.
